On October 6, 2024, the Singapore Puxian (Hinghwa) Network officially convened its second council appointment meeting, where the new council members were formally announced. President Fang Zhizhong, highly regarded by the members, was re-elected, reaffirming his leadership of the association. During the meeting, President Fang unveiled the new council appointments. Most of the experienced council members retained their roles, while a few new members were introduced, injecting fresh ideas into the team. This blend of seasoned and new members will ensure continuity while also fostering innovation, driving future development.

During his address, President Fang highlighted the mission and goals of the association. Light-heartedly, he joked, “It seems like I’ll be president for a bit longer,” which immediately drew laughter from the audience. Several months ago, Fang had expressed his desire to step down, but after much persuasion, he decided to stay on. To further enhance the operations of the council, a new position of Deputy President was established, with Huang Zhenxiao assuming the role. Huang stated that he would fully support the association’s activities and expressed his confidence in President Fang’s leadership. Fang reaffirmed his commitment to promoting Hinghwa culture and leading fundraising efforts, urging support from all sectors of society.

Plans for a Large Annual 'Hinghwa Day' Gathering
Honorary President Seah Wenmin commended the first council’s achievements over the past three years, noting that it significantly enhanced the reputation of Hinghwa people and contributed to the preservation of their cultural heritage. Seah proposed organizing an annual ‘Hinghwa Day’ event, potentially gathering a thousand people to foster deeper connections within the community. The proposal received enthusiastic responses from attendees, who eagerly anticipated the event's realization.

Having just returned from his first visit to Putian, Honorary President Chen Dejun shared his pride in the development of his hometown. He suggested forming a ‘Hinghwa Federation,’ a joint initiative of various Hinghwa organizations. He envisioned representatives from six major local Hinghwa associations working together to strengthen collaboration and unity within the community.

Balanced Council Structure with Both Immigrant and Local Hinghwa Members
President Fang highlighted the balanced composition of the new council, with equal representation from immigrant Hinghwa people and local-born descendants. This diversity is a unique characteristic of the Singapore Puxian (Hinghwa) Network, bringing different perspectives and strengths to the council’s work. Fang also expressed his gratitude to Honorary President Wu Wei, who continued to offer unwavering support and contributions to the association. Wu had previously delivered a memorable lecture on "The Impact of AI and ChatGPT-4 on Humanity" during the association’s events.
President Fang Zhizhong led the council in a show of hands to tally the number of new immigrants and locally born Hinghwa members. The numbers were roughly equal, creating a harmonious and inclusive atmosphere, reflecting the diversity and unity within the association.
Commendation for the Outstanding Contributions of the Cultural and Publicity Department
President Fang also praised the Cultural and Publicity Department, particularly under the leadership of Vice President Zhou Jiameng. Over the past three years, Zhou and his team organized several key events, including the publication of two significant books, The Nanyang Hinghwa People: A Singapore Chronicle and Hinghwa, as well as the successful launch of the “Hinghwa Food and Cultural Festival” in March. Zhou’s efforts in both planning and execution were essential to the success of these events.
